For many years a man would arrive at organized bicycle rides throughout the eastern US in an old VW camper van. He would se up a table and sell mirrors for bicycle helmets and eyeglasses among other items of his own manufacture. The mirrors were fashioned from used spokes and other recycled materials, such as aluminum soda cans and melted plastic bottles. Chuck Harris, known to many as the "mirror man", had a bike shop in Gambier, Ohio and developed a national reputation among bicycle tourists for his hand-made mirrors. He had developed his design over decades of making mirrors to mount on eyeglasses or helmets. They were stable, durable and made by a single person with purpose.
Many people were very sad to hear when Chuck Harris passed away in 2013.
I started making mirrors after Chuck Harris passed away. My mirrors are fashioned after his. Each is handcrafted; each is unique. I view my efforts to be a continuation of his tradition and hope they are worthy to be considered such.
